Experts have named cardiovascular exercise as the best way to manage high blood pressure. Any level of physical activity counts. Cardiologist Dr. Jennifer Wong suggests “making small changes” as the first step. From intense cardio to a relaxing nature work, consistent movement is key. Physically active people have a 21 percent lower risk of developing cardiovascular disease according to research. 

 

Combined with a healthy diet and exercise, there is one sweet snack that has been proven to assist in lower blood pressure readings. Eating at least 30 calories of dark chocolate a day reasonably assists with maintaining a healthy heart. Dark chocolate contains high amounts of flavanols. Flavonoids are a plant nutrient that promote healthy blood flow to the brain and heart, prevent blood clots, and fight cell damage.

 

An apple a day may be known to keep the doctor away, but coffee unfortunately does not. Elevated amounts of caffeine can cause a rise in blood pressure. Depending on your medical history the amount of caffeine consumption it takes to cause hypertension may vary. It is best to proceed with caution and ask a physician to assess how much caffeine is safe for you to consume. Generally, the U.S. Food and Drug administration suggests 400 milligrams of caffeine a day is safe for most people.
